Le Vietnam, où la peine de mort est toujours appliquée, remplacera les pelotons d'exécution par l'injection à partir de vendredi, a indiqué lundi un responsable.

«La loi sur les exécutions par injection létale à la place des pelotons d'exécution dans les affaires de condamnation à mort entrera en vigueur le 1er juillet dans tout le Vietnam», a précisé ce responsable du ministère de la Sécurité publique sous couvert de l'anonymat.
L'Assemblée nationale, qui voulait une méthode d'exécution «plus humaine», avait adopté cette loi en juin 2010.
La plupart des condamnations à mort au Vietnam sont prononcées contre des trafiquants de drogue et des meurtriers.
Il n'existe pas de statistiques officielles, mais selon les médias d'État, 19 personnes ont été condamnées à mort et 4 exécutées depuis le début de l'année.
Amnesty International a appelé le Vietnam à abolir la peine de mort, soulignant que changer de méthode n'était pas une solution à «l'inhumanité» de la punition.
L'injection létale est la méthode d'exécution privilégiée dans le monde, de nombreux pays la jugeant plus «humaine», selon l'organisation, qui réfute cet argument.

Vietnam, where the death penalty is still applied, replace the firing squad by injection from Friday, an official said Monday.

"The law on executions by lethal injection instead of firing squads in cases of death sentence will come into force on 1 July all over Vietnam," said the official of the Ministry of Public Security under the guise of anonymity.

The National Assembly, who wanted a method of execution "more human", had adopted this law in June 2010.

Most death sentences in Vietnam were against drug traffickers and murderers.

There are no official statistics, but according to state media, 19 people were sentenced to death and executed four since the beginning of the year.
